'No country for old men'[Thriller film]

In the film 'No country for old men' suspense is created from the beginning of the film by having the opening credits in silence then the action started when the police man captured the mass murderer, he turned his back on him while he was on the phone and in that short time the mass murderer un hand cuffed himself and killed the policeman, this was a very interesting thriller opening because iit created irony as the audience knew what was coming next but the policeman didn't.

'no country for old men' is a mysterious, unexplained plot because everything happens so unexpectadely that it shocks the audience with an agonising

thrill.

Arlington Road

The clip ‘Arlington road’ shows normality being twisted because it goes from something being completely normal to something really frightening and scary. This is shown through the technical elements which are camera work, sound, mise en scene and editing. The type of camera shots used were for instance, low angel shot this was used a lot to make things appear big for e.g. it was used on a white detached house which made it look big and scary, a lot of horror or thriller films usually use this type of shot to show the twist in normality. The connotations of white are purity and innocence but these types of houses are also used because it is completely isolated from everyone else and so there is no one there to hear you scream this makes it scarier. There is also a soundtrack of children laughing and screaming this shows the twist because the normality would be the laughing of children but the screaming shows the twist in the normality, which then hints to the audience that something’s wrong. The connotation of children is also purity and innocence so by having children involved makes the clip seem more disturbing. The mise en scene is also very normal and innocent because there are shots of the garden, park, dog, flowers, house etc… but the editing of the clip is that every shot is in negative. Meaning that the little and innocent things that aren’t frightening at all like the park and the flowers seem more scary and disturbing with the added negative effects on all the shots.
